Hoodia gordonii, a succulent plant, is found in Angola, Namibia, Botswana and South Africa. The San Bushmen who roam around their habitats in the Kalahari Desert have many uses for the plant. One of its uses was as an appetite suppressant. The San people found it useful while hunting in the desert for days together. Though this was known to the outside world for some time, it was only in 1997 that South African Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) began to investigate and patented its extract which they named as P57. The rights to exclusive use of P57 were sold to a British drug company called Phytopharm. Phytopharm licensed the production rights to Pfizer. Hoodia became internationally much sought after only after BBC presented a report on Hoodia in 2003 followed by 60 Minutes in 2004.

Hoodia became popular as a natural drug for weight loss. When the product became a celebrity of sorts, the San Bushmen, whose knowledge it was, was not remembered. Media accused Phytopharm of having pirated the knowledge of San without their consent and ignored their right to the benefits that are accrued from the sales of Hoodia products. Phytopharm confronted this saying that the San people no longer exist quite contrary to the fact that the San people continued to inhabit the Kalahari Desert. Very soon CSIR acknowledged the San as the source of the knowledge on Hoodia and decided to share the royalty with them in 2003. However, it is estimated that the share of the San people is a mere 0.003 percent of retail price. Pfizer later returned its P57 rights to Phytopharm who then licensed the same to Unilever in 2004. Unilever, who also produced diet foods as Slim Fast, announced that they intended to bring out functional food products with Hoodia.

A number of companies too launched Hoodia products in the wake of its popularity. They claimed that their products contained genuine Hoodia sourced from Africa. These products were introduced in the market in such brand names as Hoodia Pure, Dex-L10 Hoodia, HoodiThin Liquid, Hoodia Extract, H57 Hoodia, Tru Hoodia Diet, Hoodia Shake, Hoodia Gordonii Shake Mix, Hoodia SlimQuick, Hoodoba, Hoodia Supreme and Desert Burn. Hoodia though the main ingredient were combined with a few other useful items in most of these products. For instance, calcium, Green Tea and Vitamin D3 along with Hoodia of Slimquick Hoodia is targeted to women as a weight loss diet.

Phytopharm subsequently applied and was granted two more patents related to treatment of gastric disorders. Applications for patent for some more uses have been subsequently filed. These are related to its potential use in disorders related to disorders in the functioning of the saliva, prostrate and sweat glands besides sexual dysfunction.

Health is significant. That is why, health should always be considered a number one priority among everything else.

2 Raw Food Weight Loss 178 pounds! Dave the Raw Food Trucker VIDEO #7Vegetable Juicing *
Vegetable Juice Recipes *
Raw Vegetable Diet *

This is VIDEO #7 of my weekly chats
with my friend Dave the Raw Food Trucker!

BACKGROUND:
For those of you just joining us on this video, make sure to also watch the rest of this series of videos at http://bit.ly/Hfc1X and also quickly read the following background info on Dave’s amazing story of natural healing!:
My friend Dave the raw food truck driver tells his story of how he came from the brink of death to heal himself of several diseases including colon cancer, type II diabetes, kidney disease, with the consumption of raw foods. Not to mention his amazing weight loss of 178 pounds over the last 16 months, and he’s not stopping there. He is going to go ALL the way with his health, and wants YOU too as well. This guy is a TRUE SUPERHERO!!

*****VIDEO #7 UPDATE*****
Dave is on Day 13 of a juice feast and he feels fantastic! 34 days is the longest he has ever juice feasted, and his goal for this one is a 64 day juice feast. Although he says he will still be listening to his body and will stop sooner if that is what his body tells him to do! He is currently basing most of his juices with powdered mixes such as BarleyMax, so he can more easily stick to the plan while on the road. He feels the BarleyMax gives him a real kick!

Dave is also now thrilled to finally be fitting into a size 42 pant, after being stuck in a 44 pant for awhile. Even if this means that the rate of his weight loss might be slowing, he still just knows he needs to continue on, and “stay as organic, raw & vegan as possible!”

Dave says he feels energetically alive!

Dave was also happy to share how he has been helping others out: he recently met with 4 people who have cancer, followed by 4 people who have insulin-resistant diabetes. Dave says that he feels so blessed to be able to help people, by simply sharing with them his personal experience of how he cured himself of colon cancer and diabetes!

And Dave healed himself of these ailments, all through the healing power of juices & raw foods…whole fruits & vegetables, partnered with primarily vegetable juicing. When not using the BarleyMax powdered juice mix, he focuses on raw vegetable juice recipes made with dark, leafy greens, as well as celery. If he should ever add any fruit, he sticks with the low-glycemic fruits such as cucumbers, tomatoes and bell peppers– yes, those are all technically fruits!

Dave believes that such juices have some type of life force healing energy…perhaps from the chlorophyll, from the fact that the enzymes and everything in them is raw and living, and/or the energetics of each unique type of vegetable or fruit. He believes eating and drinking raw vegan and organic foods allow the immune system to heal itself!

Last but not least, if you ever find yourself really craving something cooked or more ‘heavy’ and you happen to live in California, Dave wholeheartedly recommends dining at Juliano’s raw food restaurant called “Planet Raw,” located in Santa Monica. Prepare to enjoy some really, really tasty raw food! http://planetraw.com

I hope you enjoyed this catch-up with Dave as much as I did!

What have you heard about dieters who lose weight fast? Have you heard that it’s a bad idea? Have you heard that those who lose weight fast will gain it all back as soon as they’re done dieting? If that’s what you’ve heard…you not only have probably only heard from people who have never had the pleasure of losing weight fast, but you also shouldn’t believe everything you hear.

A study was published recently regarding the success of women who lose weight fast (The International Journal of Behavioral Medicine). It offered interesting conclusions regarding dieters who lose a lot of weight in the beginning of their dieting. To lose weight fast (according to the study) means that dieters are more likely to result in positive long term results. In addition to this women who lose weight fast seemed to:

1. lose more weight in the long run

2. are more likely to keep their weight off

3. keep losing weight for a longer period of time

4. are more diligent in keeping good weight loss journals

5. consume less calories

Those in the homeopathic HCG weight loss industry were already aware of these benefits. They are obvious in case studies. Rapid, initial weight loss is beneficial in many ways and they are all made clear by successful homeopathic HCG dieters. According to Jenny Boynton of HCG Diet Direct a large majority of testimonials supporting the weight loss method make it clear that it’s easy to stick to the diet because before you lose your focus you’re already losing weight. Many dieters on the homeopathic HCG diet lose up to 10 pounds in their first week of dieting.

Trying to lose weight fast? We commend you for your positive thinking; and your smart thinking. Because apparently the most effective way to succeed at general weight loss is to get it started quickly with quick weight loss. It increases your chances for succeeding and the entire purpose is to succeed. There’s no other reason to dedicate your time, energy and money to a diet.

Amelia Handley majored in exercise science at university with a minor in Nutrition. Yet she still found herself veering from diet to diet trying to control her weight. With HCG Diet Direct she’s found a program that allows her to combine her desire to control her own body weight with her education and not feel off balance.
