Carbohydrate elimination is the fastest way to lose weight, this has been proven by research. Unfortunately, weight loss won’t always give you the body you want.

You see, what point is there in losing a bunch of weight if you destroy your metabolism in the process.

So here is how ketosis can destroy your fitness goals:

1. Loss of muscle mass: Eating more protein does not protect your muscles. Ironically, eating more carbs is the best strategy to prevent muscle loss. You see, in the absence of carbs your body looks for the next best source of energy, muscle mass.

3. A slowed brain: Carbohydrates are the fuel that your brain and nervous system crave. They can work at the fastest speeds with an ample carbohydrate supply. And if you increase protein intake while decreasing carbohydrate intake, your mental performance will suffer.

4. A decrease in mental outlook: Serotonin is the chemical in your brain that gives life its color. And carbs have a direct effect on levels of serotonin. So if you simply eliminate carbs from your diet, you can expect to see some nasty side effects here.

5. Reduced muscle tone: Water is what makes your muscles look tight and toned. And once you eliminate carbs your muscles will dump their stores of water. Thus, for the best appearance you need a bare minimum of carbs in your diet.

6. Compromised bone health: You see, with excessive protein intakes your body will secrete excessive amounts of calcium. Now you could have a calcium chew to offset this side effect. However, it’s probably best to not put yourself in this position to begin with.

Ketosis is not for everybody. In fact, I believe that the majority of people trying to get in shape shouldn’t put themselves into ketosis!

Without carbohydrates life is very painful. And even more painful if you exercise. For the most part, you should never take carbs out of your diet.

The problem here is that most people do not know how to optimize their carbohydrate intake for the best health and fitness benefits.

So here is how to dial in your intake of carbohydrates:

1. Don’t go too low: If you go really low with your intake, you will start to burn through excess muscle tissue for energy. Even worse, your mental performance will suffer. You see, carbs are the preferred source of fuel for your brain.

2. Have a shake right after your last exercise: Time is of the essence here. And bear in mind that you don’t have to have a supplement here, you can make your own natural shake with blended oats, for instance. Just make sure you are getting some form of liquid carbohydrate into your system.

3. Don’t overdo your consumption of whole grains: Many people have fallen under the impression that whole grains are super healthy. Well, the reality is that you should only have whole grains during times of intense physical activity.

4. Don’t focus on fruit: Too much fruit does more harm than good. You see, fruit has a lot of fructose. And fructose can cause your body to produce more triglycerides and bad cholesterol. So make sure the bulk of your fruit intake is in the morning.

5. Combine your starchy carbs with vegetables: Vegetables are a very powerful tool for increasing energy while simultaneously slowing down digestion. So try to combine your starchy carbs with vegetables as much as possible.

6. Avoid night eating syndrome: Night eating syndrome can singlehandedly destroy all your efforts to get in shape. So make sure you don’t gorge on carbs right before going to bed. Even worse, don’t have carbs in the middle of the night.

Most people are not managing their intake of carbohydrates properly. So make sure you take action here sooner rather than later!

If you’re on a diet all the time, trying one diet after the other to try to lose weight, maybe you’re toying with the idea of smoking so that you can have a “smoking metabolism.” With that, you probably think that your metabolism reactions are going to increase, so that you’ll lose weight.

Fad diets or smoking are neither effective ways to weight loss nor to boost metabolism reactions. Fad diets have only a minimal and temporary effect on weight, if any at all, and smoking will hurt not only because the smoke in your lungs, but the myth of smoking as a hunger distraction, cause the exact opposite and will definitely slow your metabolism. There are different and better ways to increase your metabolism.

Smoking of course has obvious drawbacks, but there are other negative effects with a “smoking metabolism,” too. That is, you’re going to slow down your metabolism, and if you’re pregnant, you’ll hurt your unborn child. Children born to pregnant women who smoke generally have less bone mass.

It’s unfortunate that a lot of women think having just a cigarette or two every day won’t hurt your baby, but that’s wrong. It’s also wrong to assume that a smoking metabolism can help keep you from gaining too much weight during pregnancy. Instead, what really happens is that your metabolism slows down, and as mentioned previously, your baby may be born with less bone mass than optimal.

There is only one truly effective way to help metabolism reactions and that is by adding more muscle mass. Muscles burn fat quickly and also raises the metabolism far more effectively than the so-called quick weight loss diets. When there is more muscle mass, there is a higher metabolism that continues 24 hours a day, around the clock.

Again, smoking is only going to hurt that. Although smoking temporarily reduces your appetite, your metabolism, too, is going to drop. When that happens, you burn fewer calories, so that when you eat less and suppress your appetite at the same time, your metabolism also slows down. This actually keeps you from losing weight.

The solution is really pretty simple. You don’t follow a “diet.” That is, you don’t severely restrict food intake to just a few “special” foods. Instead, you change your lifestyle so that your metabolism reactions are increased and your body becomes efficient at burning fat.

No more fad diets or assuming that the distraction created by smoking is the answer to weight loss. No more struggling to keep the pounds off, believing that skipping meals will help shed the pounds. Instead, a permanent and healthy way of eating can solve the weight loss challenge for good.
