Eating processed and refined food items can be detrimental to one’s health. But a trip to the grocery store will tell you how in-demand these items are. Since these products are high in acidity, they can wreak havoc to the chemical balance of the body and yield a host of problems and diseases. That’s why introducing more alkaline foods into your diet is important.

The chemical balance within you is measured by the pH scale, which starts from 0 to 14. It’s said that the body is much better being high in alkalinity than acidity. If the pH scale of your body falls below 7, then you’re considered acidic. There are many other food items that contribute to such, other than processed and refined ones.

Meat, seafood, dairy products, condiments, sweets and certain beverages like soft drinks and coffee all worsen the problem. With constantly increased acidity levels, the body can end up with a condition known as acidosis. In the long run, this can cause a variety of problems. There are many health conditions linked to acidosis.

If you often suffer from exhaustion, headache and frequent colds, cough, flu and allergies, you may be suffering from it already. But there are plenty more others associated with it. Some of them are skin problems, ulcers, depression and obesity. The list can go on and on – joint pains, osteoporosis, and heart and respiratory diseases.

Taking medications for all these problems only masks the signs and symptoms, leaving out the root cause. What’s more, even the medications you take themselves contribute to the increasing levels of acid within you. The best way to deal with the problem is to increase your intake of alkalizing food – those with are high in alkalinity.

Cut down your intake of processed and refined food items, as well as the others mentioned above. Replace a lot of them with fresh fruits and vegetables, preferably those which are grown organically. As a general rule, 75 percent of your regular diet should be made up of alkaline foods to neutralize excessive acids in your body.

An alkaline diet will boost your health at the same time as it helps in weight loss. You can choose alkaline foods for better blood pH balance.
